SUMMARY:Rules of the Road\, A Practical Approach
DESCRIPTION:Avoid collisions and other hazards! Know the rules of the road. \nNavigational rules of the road help you know what to do when you share the water with other boats\, how to recognize and signal intentions\, and how to avoid a collision.  This seminar focuses in a practical way on helping you understand the basic rules encountered by recreational boaters during almost every boating outing and the rules most likely to apply in the local waters where you boat.  It covers skipper responsibilities\, general rules\, and definitions\, rules to avoid a collision\, lights and shapes\, and sound and light signals. \nRules of the Road will help you understand how to recognize local situations\, the rules that apply\, and the actions you should take.  And be sure to read the United States Coast Guard’s Navigational Rules and Regulations Handbook for the authoritative word on all rules of the road\, since – as the skipper or designated crew member – you are responsible to know the rules that apply anywhere you boat.

DESCRIPTION:Whatever your boating activity includes\, knowing how to utilize nautical charts is essential to safe boating.  Charts include necessary information including bottom contours\, hazards and aids to navigation to help you travel safely.  There will also be discussion of electronic charts and GPS options.  The cost of this 3 hour seminar will be $35 ($25 for Americas Boating Club members).The seminar will be held at the Southport Regional Jetport\, 4015 Airport Rd. SUMMARY:America's Boating Course
DESCRIPTION:Learn the fundamentals of safe boat handling. This course is for boaters of all types – Sail\, Power\, and Personal Watercraft. Successful completion meets North Carolina requirements for certification to operate a power boat for anyone under the age of 26 and may provide a discount on boat insurance. \nTopics include boating terminology\, VHF radio\, Navigation rules\, Navigation aids\, NC regulations\, charts\, and electronic navigation. \nThe course will be taught on Saturday\, January 20 at the Cape Fear Jetport. Registration will begin at 8:30 am. Instruction starts at 9:00\, concluding at 5:00PM. The cost of the 8 hour course will be $60. This includes lunch\, a 260 page textbook that will be a good reference. Couples sharing a book will pay $35 for the second person. \nReservations will be necessary.
